Volvo announced that it will jointly develop a plug-in diesel hybrid vehicle with Swedish power company Vattenfall, which will be put into practical use in 2012. After the development of the vehicle is completed, Volvo will be responsible for vehicle manufacturing, and Vattenfall will be responsible for the development of the charging system and the provision of electricity for the vehicle. In the summer of 2009, Volvo will conduct demonstration experiments using demonstration models of three plug-in diesel hybrid vehicles modeled after the “V70â€. Through experiments, the demand for plug-in hybrid technology will be collected, and the use of vehicles and the best charging methods will be evaluated. Vattenfall will also implement the verification of charging in homes such as fast charging and charging public charging stations. Volvo's plug-in hybrid "ReChargeConcept" released at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show is equipped with a series hybrid system that uses only the engine for power generation. This model car uses a switchable motor and an engine-driven hybrid system. Supporting the use of low-fuel-consuming diesel engines, motors, and lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, first use the power of the rechargeable battery to drive the rear wheels with the motor. When the remaining battery power is low, start the engine to drive the front wheels. The hybrid technology planned for the 2012 practical production car may also differ from this time.
