China drying wire Reuters the world's leading chemical products and clean alternative fuels IGP energy company CEO Luo Ruijiang recently told Xinhua News Agency reporters interview that coal isobutanol will lead the global coal into the fourth wave.

Luo Ruijiang said that the first wave of global coal conversion is the promotion and application of coal-to-methanol technology, which can convert 2 tons of coal into 1 ton of methanol. In 2011, the global coal-to-methanol production capacity was 50 million tons, and the output was 18 million tons. . The second wave emerged accompanied by the maturity of coal-made dimethyl ether technology. Coal-made dimethyl ether technology could produce 2.6 tons of coal and produce 1 ton of dimethyl ether. The third wave was the development of methanol-to-olefin technology. This technology can produce 1 ton of olefins with 6 tons of methanol.

According to reports, as a high value-added chemical product, isobutanol can be used as an oxidant instead of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE). It can also be mixed with diesel to reduce the PM2.5 value. This technology is in Total. Other large companies have been successfully applied. At the same time, isobutanol can also be added to aviation fuel to control the impact of rising fuel prices.

It is understood that the current global production of isobutanol is 4.5 million tons per year, and its sales price exceeds 12,000 yuan per ton. From a global perspective, there are three major ways to produce isobutanol: one is based on petroleum, the other is based on biology, and the third is based on coal or natural gas catalytic method.

"Using coal or natural gas as raw material to produce isobutanol has the lowest cost." Luo Ruijiang said that according to the calculation of 100 US dollars per barrel, the cost of producing isobutanol from oil is roughly 1200 to 1600 US dollars per ton; according to 270 US dollars per ton of corn. The cost of bio-production of isobutanol is calculated at US$1,182 per ton, and at a cost of US$110 per ton of coal, the cost of isobutanol is US$650 per ton. Calculated at US$5 per million BTU per unit of natural gas, the cost of isobutanol is $652 per ton.

IGP Energy has partnered with Topsoe and Linde to develop technologies for converting syngas to isobutanol. In China, IGP Energy has formed a joint venture with Yankuang Group as a strategic partner and the joint venture agreement has agreed to build three large-scale chemical plants. The project is conducted in two phases. The first-phase project, IGP, accounts for 51% of the total. It plans to produce 10,000 tons of isobutanol, and the second-phase project, IGP, accounts for 49%.
