In the list of “2011 Fortune Global 500†recently launched, four Chinese auto companies such as Dongfeng, SAIC, FAW, and China South Industries Group have all significantly improved their rankings. Interestingly, if counted from the number of short-listed car companies, China is already the second largest in the world, only less than Japan and more than the United States.
Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. ranked 145th in terms of operating income of USD 55.7 billion, which was 37 places higher than the previous year. SAIC ranked 151st in terms of operating income of 54.2 billion U.S. dollars, which was 72 places higher than the previous year. FAW ranked 197th in terms of operating income of $43.4 billion, which is a 61-point improvement over the previous year.
