Global biofuel production increased by 14% in 2010

According to the 2011 Energy Yearbook issued by British BP, global biofuel production in 2010 increased by 14% to 59 million tons of oil equivalent (1.9 million barrels per day by volume). As ethanol production rose to 43.5 million tons of oil equivalent (1.5 million barrels per day) and biodiesel production reached 15.8 million tons of oil equivalent (400,000 barrels per day), supply increased for the tenth year. Compared with 2009, ethanol production increased by 9%, and the growth rate of biodiesel production declined from 23% in the previous year to 9%.
